Here I am, about to start teaching a program at Kripalu, a lovely program/retreat center in Western Massachusetts. I took these photos when I went to see our program room just before it filled.
50 people would soon take their seats for “The Power of Meditation.” Who are they? What do they think meditation is? What do they imagine the practice will do for them and who do they think I am supposed to be?
I have no idea. But soon they will enter with 50 different ideas, 50 varieties of need, 50 stages of pain, and 50 projections onto each other and the teacher. 1/3 of them will think the room is too cold. 1/3 will think it is too hot. 1/3 will think it is just right. 1/3 will be prepared to look up to me. 1/3 will be prepared to look down on me. 1/3 will be prepared to ignore me and just go their own way.
The truth is, I have no idea what is about to happen. Let’s do this thing.
May it be of vast, indestructible, loving benefit.
